Hello guys,
Last week I install Ubuntu 10.04 in my laptop Dell Vostro 1310.
So, today I install my printer and it is working perfectly now.
I have a HP Deskjet F4580 and it is a wireless device. So I was a little bit afraid about the install process, because the fact it is wireless. But it was easy.
Now I can print from my laptop by the wireless network, really good.
Just some comments/tips about the install process that maybe could help you.
At command line type:
caio@caio-laptop:~$ hp-probe -g
It will show you some option type:
1 net Network/Ethernet/Wireless (direct connection or JetDirec
You will receive a message like this:
hp-probe[4506]: debug: Cache miss: deskjet_f4500_series
hp-probe[4506]: debug: Reading file: /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat
hp-probe[4506]: debug: Searching for section [deskjet_f4500_series] in file /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat
hp-probe[4506]: debug: Found section [deskjet_f4500_series] in file /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat
Device URI Model Name
---------------------------------------------- -------------------- --------
hp:/net/Deskjet_F4500_series?ip=192.168.10.102 Deskjet_F4500_series HPC8C626
Found 1 printer(s) on the 'net' bus.
Good. As you can see your linux found your wireless printer.
Install HPLIB using Ubuntu Software Center, this program will help you install your printer.
The install process using HPLIB is almost the same thing in Windows.
Maybe your CUPS will not be running, so if you need to start the CUPS type:
caio@caio-laptop:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart
[sudo] password for caio:
* Restarting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd [ OK ]
caio@caio-laptop:~$
Have fun, your wireless printer will work perfectly.
This is not a tutorial step-by-step. But for sure it will help you a lot.
If I install you can also install it. Enjoy it.
