GeoServer, MapServer e o mundo dos Mapas

Amigo leitor,

Quem não gosta de trabalhar com mapas?!

Qual é o presidente, diretor ou gerente de uma empresa que não gosta de ver seus dados em um mapa?

Normalmente a solução mais utilizada e simples é usar a API Google Maps, mas existem outras opções que podem ser utilizadas (e o melhor são opções livres).

O mundo do BI muitas vezes se cruza com o mundo do GeoProcessamento, eles podem colaborar entre si e inclusive podem ser bons parceiros.

Pentaho 5.0 CE is now available!

Hi Folks,

Great news from Pedro Alves and Pentaho ...

After two release update announcements and over 1 month after my initial estimate (mid-october... yeah, right!), it's done!

Pentaho 5.0 CE is available for download!

This was a huge collaborative effort from a lot of people - internally, from all areas of Pentaho, and externally, from the community!

Based out of the Pentaho 5.0.1 codebase, we are releasing what we hope to be a coherent and quality release to fulfill the needs of our user base.

I'd like to specially thank the authors that did a great effort in making sure their plugins were working against 5.0: Xavier Cho and the Pivot4J team, Paul Stoellberger and the Analytical Labsteam, Marius Giepz, and a huge effort from the Brazilian Pentaho Community that got together and organized a 20-man team to build a QA plan and test the suite. Amazing work everyone!

Now... if you excuse me, I'm signing out. Getting this release out the door plus the fact that Portugal just qualified for the Football World Cup (the kind of football were you actually kick a ball with your foot, my American friends), if you see a guy celebrating in the streets totally drunk, it's most likely me! \o/

Ministério de Minas e Energia está na mira de espiões americanos e canadenses

Pessoal,

Alguém viu a reportagem "Ministério de Minas e Energia está na mira de espiões americanos e canadenses" ?

A imagem abaixo é um print screen de uma transformação ou job criado com um programa de ETL chamado PDI (Pentaho Data Integration), parece que eles utilizaram o PDI para criar um programa de espionagem.

Para quem ainda não conhece o PDI eu recomendo conhecer, excelente ferramenta para construir qualquer coisa, inclusive ferramentas de espionagem rsrsrsrsrsrs.

PCM 13 - Evento Internacional da Comunidade Pentaho

Em 2009 tive a oportunidade de participar do PCM em Barcelona, e desde aquele dia eu desejo participar todos os anos.
Infelizmente, por diversos motivos, somente depois de 4 anos eu pude voltar a participar deste evento.

Esse ano vou dar uma palestra sobre a Comunidade Pentaho Brasil, vou falar do livro que lançamos, chamado Pentaho na Prática, e também vou comentar sobre o nosso produto comunitário ''Saiku Chart Plus''. Também vou falar sobre nossos eventos brasileiros, sobre o perfil da nossa comunidade e contar um pouco sobre o excelente trabalho realizado, no Brasil, por todos da comunidade (o qual felizmente tem sido acompanhado de perto pela Pentaho, graças ao trabalho do Pedro Alves). O Pedro é o atual representante mundial da comunidade na Pentaho; para quem não sabe a Pentaho incorporou oficialmente as C*Tools e o Pedro, e hoje ele trabalha na Pentaho.

Sei que esse evento não é muito conhecido no Brasil, entretanto ele começou em 2008 na Alemanha, e todos os anos acontece em alguma cidade da Europa.

Todos os anos tenho acompanhado o PCM, em 2009 e em 2013 presencialmente, e nos outros anos através de blogs, twitter e videos que são depois disponibilizados. Assim, para quem quiser saber mais sobre o evento os links são:

Minha palestra ainda não foi finalizada e ainda existe espaço para sugestões vindas da comunidade. Vou ficar 6 dias com muitas pessoas da Pentaho, Partners e Geek Heroes como Matt Casters, Thomas, Julian Hyde, Paul, Tom, Pedro e outros, e posso aproveitar esse tempo para fazer perguntas, investigar, etc; estou disposto a ajudar a comunidade no que for necessário e possível.

I believe in BYOD (Bring your own device)

Some years ago a friend of mine told me about the BYOD (Bring your own device) idea.

Since that time I believe in this idea, unfortunately the IT departament in a lof of companies do not implement new ideas and a lot of them are living in the past.

But today a lot of big companies are implementing it.

What is BYOD?

"Bring your own device (BYOD) (also called bring your own technology (BYOT), bring your own phone (BYOP), and bring your own PC (BYOPC)) means the policy of permitting employees to bring personally owned mobile devices (laptops, tablets, and smart phones) to their workplace, and use those devices to access privileged company information and applications.^[1] The term is also used to describe the same practice applied to students using personally owned devices in education settings.^[2]

BYOD is making significant inroads in the business world, with about 75% of employees in high growth markets such as Brazil and Russia and 44% in developed markets already using their own technology at work.^[3] In most cases, businesses simply can't block the trend. Some^[who?] believe that BYOD may help employees be more productive.^[4]Others^[who?] say it increases employee morale and convenience by using their own devices and makes the company look like a flexible and attractive employer.^[5] Many^[who?] feel that BYOD can even be a means to attract new hires, pointing to a survey that indicates 44% of job seekers view an organization more positively if it supports their device. ^[6]
